The Trichloroacetic Acid is a solid, colourless to slightly yellow deliquescent crystal or white crystalline powder. This chemical has a sharp, pungent odour. It is a non-combustible material - the substance itself does not burn but may decompose upon heating to produce corrosive and/or toxic fumes.
This chemical has explosive properties - closed containers may explode in the heat of a fire. May react violently or explosively with strong oxidizing agents (e.g. chromium trioxide, perchlorates, peroxides). A mixture of copper wool and dimethyl sulfoxide reacts violently and explosively. It may produce flammable and explosive hydrogen gas when in contact with reactive metals (eg. aluminium, zinc).
Alternate names for the chemical include Trichloroethanoic Acid.
