The Search Coil for Magnetic Fields consists of a long, slim insulating blade with two terminals on one end and a small coil of fine wire on the other end. The blade measures approximately 300mm in length and 20mm in width. The coil contains around 5000 turns of very fine wire and is connected to the two socket terminals at the blade's end. These Search Coils are built from durable fibreglass circuit board material, ensuring strength, electrical insulation, and non-magnetism.
The axial model positions the coil's axis parallel to the long blade's axis. These search coils are utilised for determining field strengths or flux density within the air gap of solenoids or magnets.
They can be connected to an oscilloscope, voltmeter, or ammeter to detect induced voltages and placed inside magnetic fields or solenoids for observation. By positioning the search coils in various AC or DC fields, researchers can gain a deeper understanding of field behavior and the generation of electromotive force (emf). Additionally, applying a DC or AC signal to the search coil allows for the study of the effects of interacting magnetic fields.
