The Phenolphthalein is a solid, white or yellowish-white crystal or powder with no odour.

This chemical is a non-combustible material and does not support combustion. It may burn if heated strongly enough, and during a fire irritating or toxic gases may be formed.

Alternate names for the chemical include pH Indicator, 3,3-Bis(4-Hydroxyphenyl)-1[3H]-Isobenzofuranone Phthalin, and 2- [Bis(4-Hydroxyphenyl)methyl]-Benzoic Acid.
