We have unused/still packaged stock of face shields on hand that have reached the expiry date indicated on the carton. Given these are non sterile face shields- what does the expiry date indicate? What is your advice about using these faceshields outside of this expiry date?
Question by: Alex on 10 Mar 2025, 2:21 am
Non-sterile face shield expiry dates indicate the manufacturer’s recommended period for optimal performance, considering potential material degradation.
What the Expiry Date Reflects:
Material Integrity – Plastic may become brittle, cloudy, or cracked.
Adhesive & Padding – Foam or adhesive may degrade, affecting fit.
Elastic Wear – Straps may lose elasticity or become brittle.
Using Face Shields Past Expiry:
Inspect Before Use – If stored properly in sealed packaging, they may still be functional.
Check for Degradation – Ensure clarity, structural integrity, and secure fit.
Non-Critical Use – May still be suitable for general or non-medical use.
Regulatory Compliance – Check guidelines for medical settings.
If deterioration is evident or regulations prohibit use, consider disposal or repurposing.

Good morning. We have several batches of face shields at our facility, but cannot find an expiry or disposal date. Where would we find this information? Kind regards, Jayne

In the inner packs, there is a product certificate in the bag. This states the production date, validity period and batch details. Note that these are non-sterile.
