The XLD Agar is a solid agar in a Petri Dish. The colour is a clear and light rose with no specific odour.
This medium was introduced to improve the recovery and recognition of Shigella species and has proved to be an excellent medium for Salmonella species. The medium is low in nutrients and relies on a small amount of sodium desoxycholate for selectivity.
