Potato Dextrose Agarose (PDA) Powder is a high-quality dehydrated medium formulated for cultivating fungi and yeasts.

Ideal for microbiology, plant pathology, and food or environmental testing, this agar supports vigorous mycelial growth, sporulation, and the observation of zygosporangia in fungal conjugation studies.

Material & Composition

The powder is a fine, buff-coloured agarose with stable chemical properties when stored under recommended conditions. It contains nutrients tailored for fungal and yeast growth but does not include components classified as hazardous to health or the environment. The medium has a pH of 5.6 ± 0.2 when prepared according to instructions.

Safety & Handling

Users should handle the powder with appropriate personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, gloves, and lab coats. Ensure adequate ventilation and avoid dust inhalation or contact with skin and eyes.

Always wash hands after handling and remove PPE before entering areas where food is consumed. The powder is non-dangerous, non-hazardous and must not be ingested.

Storage & Disposal

Store the container in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated environment below 25°C, away from strong light, with the lid tightly closed.

Disposal of unused product or containers should follow workplace protocols, considering local, regional, and national waste regulations. Empty containers may be rinsed thoroughly before discarding, while appropriate PPE should be worn during disposal.

Preparation & Usage

1. To prepare the medium, dissolve 39g of powder in 1 litre of distilled water, stirring continuously while bringing the mixture to a boil for 3 to 5 minutes.
2. Sterilise the solution by autoclaving at 121°C for 15 minutes, then allow to cool to 70°C before pouring into sterile plates.
3. Mix thoroughly prior to pouring and store set plates inverted in the refrigerator. This procedure ensures optimal growth conditions for a broad range of fungal species.
