MILWAUKEE Refractometer, Digital, for Sodium Chloride

This Digital Refractometer for Sodium Chloride uses refractive index measurement to determine sodium chloride concentration in aqueous solutions commonly used in food preparation. It is not designed for measuring salinity in sea or aquarium water; the MA887 model is recommended for those applications.

Designed for simplicity and speed, this instrument requires only a one-point calibration with deionised or distilled water. Within seconds, it measures the refractive index of the sample and provides a digital readout with an accuracy of ±2 parts per thousand, featuring automatic temperature compensation (ATC).

Measurement Methodology

The MA886 utilises internationally recognised references for unit conversion and temperature compensation. It can display sodium chloride concentration in four different units: grams per 100 grams, grams per 100 millilitres, specific gravity, and degrees Baumé.

Temperature (in °C or °F) is displayed simultaneously with the measurement on three of the ranges via a large dual-level LCD, which also shows icons for low power and other helpful message codes.

Design & Usability

This refractometer features an IP65-rated waterproof enclosure and a stainless steel sample well with a sealed flint glass prism, ensuring durability and easy cleaning. It requires only 2–3 drops of sample, delivers results in under 2 seconds, and includes a battery percent level indicator. The instrument automatically shuts off after 3 minutes of inactivity to conserve battery life.

Applications

This refractometer is ideal for food preparation environments where accurate sodium chloride measurement is required. Its portability and precision make it suitable for on-the-go and laboratory use, excluding seawater or aquarium salinity testing.

Supplied Components

Each unit is supplied with a 9V battery and an instruction manual. It is advisable to retain packaging until the instrument is confirmed to be fully operational, as returns require original packaging.
