A Compound Bar for exploring thermal properties and understanding the behaviour of materials with different expansion rates. It features a stainless steel handle, ensuring poor heat conductivity, and is welded to the bar. The compound bar is manufactured by bonding two metals with different heat expansion coefficients face to face, creating the illusion of a single strip of metal.

To aid in easy identification, the two bonded metals are intentionally different colors, eliminating confusion for teachers and students alike. When heated over a flame, the distinct expansion coefficients of the metals come into play, causing the metal strip to bend significantly. Remarkably, the metal with the higher expansion coefficient always takes the outer surface of the bend, demonstrating the fascinating principles of heat expansion.
