DECON 90 Liquid, General Purpose Cleaning Agent, NOT for Domestic Uses

Decon 90 is a general-purpose, surface-active cleaning agent and radioactive decontaminant designed for laboratory, medical, and industrial applications. In some regions, it is sold under the trade name CONTRAD. It is not suitable for domestic use.

Application Method

Supplied as a liquid concentrate, Decon 90 is intended for dilution with water and is suitable for both manual cleaning and use in ultrasonic cleaning baths.

Physical & Chemical Properties

It is a milky white, non-viscous liquid with a faint odour. It is alkaline, with a concentrated pH exceeding 13. The product is biodegradable, bactericidal, phosphate-free, non-flammable, and fully rinsable.

Packaging

This surface-active cleaning detergent is packaged in 5-litre high-density polyethylene (HDPE) containers fitted with tamper-evident screw-on caps for secure storage and handling.

Suitable Surfaces & Materials

Decon 90 is formulated for cleaning and decontaminating glassware, ceramics, rubbers, most plastics (excluding polycarbonate), stainless steel, and ferrous metals. Due to its alkaline nature, it is not recommended for use on non-ferrous metals such as aluminium and zinc.

Chemical Composition

The liquid concentrate formulation consists of an emulsion of anionic and non-ionic surface active agents, stabilising agents, non-phosphate detergent builders, alkalis, and sequestering agents in an aqueous base.

Method of Use

1. Prepare a 2–5% solution of Decon® 90 in water; for critical applications, use demineralised water.
2. Immerse items completely and soak for 2–24 hours, depending on the level of soiling.
3. For stubborn contaminants, increase the solution concentration as needed.
4. Cleaning time can be shortened by warming the solution to 40–50°C or using an ultrasonic bath.
5. Rinse items thoroughly immediately after cleaning and dry completely.
6. Perform at least three agitated rinses to remove all traces of the cleaning agent and contaminants.
