Our Porcelain Crucibles with lids are supplied in a low form (squat) design, in white glazed porcelain for strength and improved chemical resistance.

Each crucible includes a fitted lid to reduce contamination and heat loss during heating and ash-handling tasks. These ceramic laboratory crucibles are suitable for routine heating, ashing and small-scale analytical work in professional laboratories, teaching laboratories and practical classroom demonstrations.

Design & Construction

Manufactured from glazed porcelain with a smooth internal finish to aid cleaning and reduce material adherence. The low-profile (squat) design provides a stable heating geometry and good access for tongs and spatulas.

The included lid fits securely to limit airborne contamination and retain volatile residues.

Capacities

Two capacities cater to common laboratory needs: the 8ml porcelain crucible (SKU 040312-0010), and the 17ml porcelain crucible (SKU 040312-0020).

These compact sizes make these crucibles ideal for small-scale sample preparation, qualitative tests and classroom experiments where controlled, repeatable heating is required.

Temperature Limits & Handling

The 8ml crucible is rated for use at temperatures up to 1050°C; meanwhile, the 17ml crucible is rated for temperatures up to 1000°C; for best service life and to avoid thermal shock, the recommended rate of heating and cooling should not exceed 200°C per hour.

Use appropriate tongs, heat-resistant gloves and safety shields when handling crucibles at elevated temperatures and allow parts to cool on a heatproof surface before touching them directly.

Suitable for general chemistry tasks such as ashing, ignition, small-scale fusion and sample drying. These porcelain crucibles are commonly used in analytical labs, school science rooms and light industrial testing where a non-reactive, heat-resistant container is required.
